Sister Elizabeth Gwen, summer 2020

Sister Elizabeth Gwen, summer 2020

Sister Elizabeth Gwen made her Life Profession 67 years ago, so her years of ministry in CHN took her to many places, across Melbourne, interstate and overseas.

She was Reverend Mother from 1981-1994, a busy and eventful time for CHN and for Religious Life generally.

She went on to set up and manage the Community Archives. Elizabeth also served for 22 years as Oblates’ Coordinator, guiding and encouraging many Oblates in their life journey.

Elizabeth died peacefully, after a short stay in hospital, on 23 December 2020.

Well done good and faithful servant.

Sister Gloria takes lifelong vows, 10 May 2020.

Sister Gloria was a nurse and Lay Chaplain in Canberra and Hobart. She had been connected to the Community since 1998 when she was made an Oblate.

Gloria felt a very strong call from God to join the Community following the death of her husband Owen and tried out the Religious Life initially as an Alongsider in 2013 and 2014. She was professed in Triennial vows on the 24 August 2017 and her lifelong vows on 10 May 2020. On 12 October 2020, she lost her battle to cancer.

God’s call to Gloria was not for her works but her being; not for her gifts but for herself and that is what she gave.

Vale Sister Jean

CHN-Sister-Jean

In spite of her handicap, Sister Jean lived life joyously and to the full.  She was a “people person” and touched many with her love and generosity, her friendly smile and infectious laugh.

She was also a deeply prayerful person whose spiritual life and love of God undergirded all that she did.  After a life well lived Sister Jean died on 1st February, 2019.
